Certificate III Aged Care Work

Upon succesful completion of the course you will receive a double qualification.

CHC30208 – CERTIFICATE III IN AGED CARE WORK

CHC30308 - CERTIFICATE III IN HOME & COMMUNITY CARE


This double qualification gives you the knowledge and skills necessary to gain employment in Aged Care residential and day care facilities and in the Home & Community Care sector.

In this profession you carry out a range of activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care and/or other activities of living. This is a growing industry with many jobs available.

This is an open entry program for people working in, or who wish to work in the Aged Care/Community Services field. Students need and average level of oral, written and numeracy skills in English. If you are less than 18 years of age you must have parental/guardian approval to enrol for this course.

Course Duration

Daytime Courses: 7 Weeks (Face to Face Training)   The course is run over a 7 week period. For the first 3 weeks you attend our training venue at Strathpine for 2 days per week from 9am till 1pm on these days. Following this you need to complete a minimum of 100 hours of Clinical Placement in an Aged Care facility over a 3 week period.  In week 7 you are back in the classroom for 2 days from 9am to 1pm.

External Study (QLD & NSW only):  If you choose to complete the course externally you will be sent the training materials upon enrolment.  Once you have succesfully completed the theory component you will then be required to complete your 100 hours of Clinical Placement.  Medical Administration Training will find a suitable facility within your area for you to complete the practical assessment process within the workplace.  You will have 3 months to complete the course. 

This course can also be done under the Australian Apprenticeship/Traineeship scheme.

Training Program

To obtain this qualification you will need to complete 14 units of study.  The units to be completed are as follows;

  • CHCCS411A     Work effectively in the community sector
  • CHCOHS312A   Follow safety procedures for direct care work
  • CHCAC318A     Work effectively with older people
  • HLTAP301A      Recognise healthy body systems in a health care setting
  • CHCICS301A    Provide support to meet personal care needs
  • CHCICS303A    Support individual health and emotional well-being
  • CHCAC317A    Support older people to maintain their independence
  • CHCAC319A    Provide support to people living with dementia
  • CHCICS302A    Participate in the implementation of individualised plans
  • CHCPA301B     Deliver care services using a palliative approach
  • HLTHIR403B    Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
  • CHCHC411A   Work effectively in home and community care
  • CHCICS304A   Work effectively with people with a disability
  • CHCDIS301A   Work effectively with people with a disability


Course Fees: $1990.00
The full cost of the course is $1990.00 (GST Free) which includes all training materials being supplied to you. Course fees are non-refundable. Payment plans are available.


If you are currently working in the industry then all course fees may be Tax Deductible.

Vocational Placement

In addition to study time students who are not currently working within the industry are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer work with a local Aged Care facility. This volunteer work is called “Vocational Placement” and will make up some of your assessment criteria. Vocational placement will be arranged through Medical Administration Training, if you are attenting the training venue.  If you are studying from home you will need to arrange your own placement.

Please Note: Industry guidelines require all staff employed in Aged Care to obtain a Police Check.
