Course structure & fees

In this Nationally Recognised course you will complete 10 modules that consist of 13 units of competency (five core and eight elective units).

These subjects look at medical records and medical accounts and ways to protect the privacy and confidentiality of patients and how to prevent and address them. ou will be taken on a journey of how to dissect difficult medical words and how to use prefixes, root words and suffixes, to decipher what they mean. Unit(s):

  • BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
  • Medical Reception Module – Clustered unit consisting of:
    • BSBMED302 Prepare and process medical accounts
    • BSBMED303 Maintain patient records
    • BSBMED305 Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security within the medical environment

*Include access to and use of the specialised medical software package Clinic to Cloud as well as tutorials in Best Practice and Pracsoft.

These subjects look at the important skill that is needed in all heathcare job roles. Communication is at the heart of how we interact with one another and our patients. Understanding how to communicate effectively can therefore have positive benefits in the workplace and life. Health administration staff will also need to know how to identify and defuse difficult situations and manage challenging behaviours. Unit(s):

This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to design and produce various simple business documents.

  • Documents Module – Clustered unit consisting of:
    • BSBITU306 Design and produce business documents
    • BSBWRT311 Write simple documents

The primary goal of inventory control in healthcare should be providing safe and appropriate care to patients. Work Health & Safety policies, procedures and compliance are the focus of all Healthcare facilities. These subjects provide an understanding of stock control and safety responsibilities. Unit(s):

  • HLTWHS001 Participate in WHS
  • BSBMED304 Assist in controlling stocks and supplies

The overall aim of this subject is for students to have a thorough understanding of the principles of controlling the spread of infection in the workplace. Unit(s):

  • HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control

MAT’s assessment approach is competency-based, which means you need not worry about a once off pass or fail outcome. During the course, our trainers use various methods to evaluate your abilities, such as:

  • Question-based assessments – You will be asked to provide written responses to questions.
  • Product-based assessment – For example you may be asked to create a simple report, write a business
    letteror make a form.
  • Direct observation – Trainers will evaluate your practical skills as you engage in actual workplace tasks or simulated roleplay activities

Medical Administration Training (MAT) understands the importance of practical experience, so role-playing makes up some of the practical elements of your assessments. MAT believes that you can benefit from undertaking role-playing activities throughout your studies. Not only are they fun and interactive, it gives you the opportunity to collaborate with other participants such as your family, friends or colleagues.

We allow each student up to three attempts for each assessment. Our reliable trainers are committed to supporting your learning journey and will provide clear, written feedback to help you refine your capabilities.

Our students are allotted a generous timeframe of up to 18 months to complete the course. Nevertheless, if you prefer, you can complete the program earlier if you wish. Our flexible learning environment and guidance cater to all learning styles, ensuring you achieve your study goals.

Being a distance-based online program, you have the flexibility to access fully accredited course material from anywhere and at any time. Students can participate and complete coursework conveniently through a desktop computer, laptop or some coursework may also be completed using a mobile device.

To access your course content, you will require the following:

  • A good internet connection 
  • Functional audio (microphone) and, if required, a camera or webcam on your desktop or laptop.
